Terms of service

The terms for using jsonresume.org, its API and its MCP server.

Last updated 24 October 2026.

jsonresume.org is a free service run by the maintainers of the open-source JSON Resume project. By using it you agree to these terms. Our privacy policy explains what we keep about you.

Your account

Keep your password and API keys to yourself; you're responsible for what's done with them. One person, one account. Pick a username that isn't misleading or someone else's name or brand: we may change or free usernames that are.

Your resume and content

You own your resume and anything else you put here. You give us permission to store it, show it at your page and in the formats and themes you choose, and send it to the services that help us run the site (listed in the privacy policy), only to provide the service. Your resume page is public. Only publish what's true and yours to share, and nothing illegal, hateful, or that infringes someone else's rights.

The API and the MCP server

You may use the API and the MCP server, yourself or through apps you connect, to manage your own account. Don't use them to get at other people's accounts, to overload the service, or to get around rate limits or access controls. Apps you connect act as you: you're responsible for what you let them do, and you can disconnect them at any time in Settings.

Jobs

Job posts come from Hacker News and belong to their authors. We tidy and match them to help you, but we don't check them and aren't party to any application or hiring. Apply the way each post asks, and check the details with the employer.

Open source

The site's code and the JSON Resume schema are open source under the MIT License, in our public repository. Themes are open source under their own licenses.

No warranty

jsonresume.org is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind. We do our best to keep it running and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. Keep a copy of your resume (it's in your gist, or download it from your page). As far as the law allows, the maintainers aren't liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service.

Ending

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or remove accounts or content that break these terms.

Changes

We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with a new date; using the service after a change means you accept it. Questions? Ask on GitHub or on Discord.
