Robotic Controls Engineer
Nirvana Robotics
Nirvana Robotics builds humanoid robots with robotic arms for industrial environments. This role focuses on low-level control for multi-DOF arms including joint-level actuation, impedance/admittance and whole-body control; other open roles include Mechanical Engineer and Electrical Engineer focused on arm hardware and electrical architecture.
What you’ll do
- Low-level control for multi-DOF arms including joint-level actuation
- Implement impedance/admittance and whole-body control
- Sim-to-real development and deployment
- Hands-on work on real robot hardware (arms, grippers, mobile manipulators, actuated joints or humanoids)
What they’re looking for
- Roughly BS + 4 years, MS + 2 years or a PhD
- Experience with PID/LQR/state-space control methods
- Experience with C++ and Python
- Experience with ROS 2
Skills
- ROS 2: ROS 2
- C++: C++
- Python: Python
- MoveIt: MoveIt
- cuRobo: cuRobo
- Control theory: PID, LQR, state-space, impedance, admittance, whole-body control, sim-to-real
- Altium: Altium
- BLDC drivers: BLDC drivers, current sensing
- EtherCAT: EtherCAT
- CAN: CAN
- BMS: BMS
- SolidWorks / Creo / NX / Onshape: SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Onshape, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups
The post
Nirvana Robotics | Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Robotic Controls Engineer | New York, NY | ONSITE | Full-time | $220K-$300K
Nirvana Robotics builds humanoid robots with robotic arms that work in industrial environments. Their hardware team in NYC is growing, and each of these roles owns a subsystem end to end on physical robots. I'm a recruiter at Niuro, Nirvana's hiring partner for these roles; the links below go to our application form and I read every application myself.
Mechanical Engineer ($230K-$260K): mechanical design of robotic arms and manipulators: joints, actuators, transmissions, end effectors. You optimize for torque density, backdrivability and stiffness, prototype with additive and precision machining, and take assemblies to production. GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, SolidWorks (or Creo/NX/Onshape). Electrical Engineer ($220K-$250K): electrical architecture for arms and humanoids: power distribution, motor-driver boards, sensor PCBs, harnessing. Multilayer mixed-signal and high-current layout in Altium, BLDC drivers and current sensing, bench bring-up and DFM with PCBA partners. EtherCAT, CAN or BMS is a plus. Robotic Controls Engineer ($270K-$300K): low-level control for multi-DOF arms: joint-level actuation, impedance/admittance and whole-body control, sim-to-real. PID/LQR/state-space, MoveIt or cuRobo, C++ and Python, ROS 2. For all three: hands-on work on real robot hardware (arms, grippers, mobile manipulators, actuated joints or humanoids). Mechanical and Electrical: 5+ years with a bachelor's or 3+ with a master's. Controls: roughly BS + 4 years, MS + 2 or a PhD. US-based; relocation to NYC within the US is supported. Visa sponsorship is not available.
