Principal Engineer
Bubblehouse
Bubblehouse is a small team across the US and Europe building the platform that household-name brands use to run their own loyalty programs. The Principal Engineer will work on a Go-based platform and a custom database engine built on local key-value stores with mmap'ed reads, and will be expected to reason from web platform details down to CPU caches. The role requires working across stacks, contributing to low-level storage/compute co-location, and server-side rendered JavaScript.
What you’ll do
- Work on Go-based platform and custom database engine
- Optimize storage and compute co-location and mmap-based reads
- Write and maintain hand-written JavaScript and server-side rendered HTML
- Reason about performance down to CPU caches
What they’re looking for
- Deep knowledge of the web platform
- Experience reasoning down to CPU caches
- Years building across different stacks with clear tradeoff reasoning
- Ability to show and discuss previous projects you're proud of
Skills
- Go: Go, golang
- Custom database engine / storage: database engine, local key-value stores, mmap, storage and compute on same machines, read from mmap'ed pages
- JavaScript: JavaScript, hand-written JavaScript, server-side rendering
- Web platform: web platform, HTML, server-side rendered HTML, no React
The post
Bubblehouse | Fully REMOTE | Full-Time | $200–250k | Principal Engineer
We’re a small team across the US and Europe. We build the platform that household-name brands use to run their own loyalty programs.
We write Go and run our own database engine on top of local key-value stores. We keep storage and compute on the same dedicated machines and read straight from mmap’ed pages. Ever came across HN saying that one can run Twitter on a single machine these days? We’re doing that in production.
We write our JavaScript by hand, have zero lines of React, and render HTML server-side like it’s 2005.
We’re looking for someone who knows the web platform well and can reason all the way down to CPU caches. You’ve spent years building across different stacks and have opinions about the tradeoffs you made. We’d love to see something you built that you’re proud of, and hear why you built it that way.
We pay $200–250k a year, all cash. You’ll need to be available from 9am to noon New York time.
