Exponent is a financial platform for franchise and multi-location restaurant operators that provides charge cards, loans, and an AI-powered Accountant which ingests POS, bank, payroll and processor data, reconciles it, and automates the monthly close. The role owns core systems in the Accountant (ingestion, background jobs, and LLM classification inside a ledger), is full-stack but focused on backend architecture, and operates in a hybrid New York office.
What you’ll do
- Own core systems in the Accountant product
- Implement idempotent ingestion from unreliable third-party APIs
- Maintain background jobs that keep thousands of accounts in sync
- Design decisions about how LLM classification behaves inside a ledger
- Full stack work with focus on backend architecture
- Ship multiple times a day
What they’re looking for
- 5+ years experience
- Deep experience in any server-side framework (Rails, Django, Phoenix, TypeScript)
- Fluent with AI-assisted development
- Fintech and Rails experience are strong pluses

Exponent is a financial platform for franchise and multi-location restaurant operators: charge cards, loans, and an AI-powered Accountant that pulls in an operator's POS, bank, payroll and processor data, reconciles it, and automates the monthly close.
You'd own core systems in the Accountant: idempotent ingestion from unreliable third-party APIs, the background jobs that keep thousands of accounts in sync, and the decisions about how LLM classification behaves inside a ledger that has to be right. Full stack, focused on backend architecture. Rails, Postgres, Sidekiq. We ship multiple times a day.
We want someone who ships fast and knows when to slow down. 5+ years, deep experience in any server-side framework (Rails, Django, Phoenix, TypeScript), and fluent with AI-assisted development. Fintech and Rails experience are strong pluses.
