Work Experience

Work Experience

  • Tech Lead, Superscript

    Jul, 2023 - Present

As Tech Lead, I provide architectural direction and technical leadership for the team building and evolving Superscript's insurance product platform. I've led the design of key systems including our declarative product framework, rating engine, and multi-client distribution infrastructure. My role bridges engineering, product, and underwriting, ensuring scalable, maintainable solutions aligned with business goals. I champion technical standards, mentor engineers, and have driven significant reductions in product delivery timelines while improving system modularity through principles like hexagonal architecture.

    • Designed and implemented a declarative framework for defining insurance products, reducing development time from 2 months to 2 weeks and enabling junior engineers to deliver independently.

    • Delivered a scalable system for distributing insurance products across clients, cutting time-to-market timeline from 4 months to 1 month

  • Full Stack Consultant, Rodeo (via Passionate People)

    Aug, 2020 - Feb, 20221 year 6 months

Rodeo, a project management platform, brought me on as a consultant through Passionate People to help stabilize and modernize a poorly maintained legacy system they had inherited. I introduced architectural patterns such as the Strangler Fig to enable a gradual migration toward a more modern application stack—ensuring continuity for existing users while incrementally replacing brittle legacy components. As part of this effort, I led the development of a modern, highly interactive project planner, designed to replace the original planning module without disrupting user workflows.

  • Lead Developer, Scrn

    Jul, 2017 - Jul, 20203 years

Promoted to lead developer, where I led the redevelopment of two additional legacy systems for Eurovision: the internal intranet and the accreditation platform. Recognizing broader business potential, I initiated and co-created Accredion, a SaaS accreditation system used at other events including the European Triathlon Championship. I introduced modern architectural patterns like event sourcing and BDD to better align code with complex business workflows. This shift significantly improved maintainability, scalability, and our ability to model complex domain logic.

  • Full Stack Developer, Scrn

    Jul, 2016 - Jun, 201711 months

Hired as an intern to rebuild the official Eurovision Song Contest website, a legacy PHP5.x application containing thousands of articles, images, and historical datasets. When the project lost key personnel, I independently took ownership of the rebuild, delivering a modern Laravel-based platform with a refreshed design and custom in-house CMS.

  • Full Stack Developer, Peakfijn

    Oct, 2014 - Jan, 20161 year 3 months

As a Full Stack Developer I helped turn client ideas into fully functional digital products. I collaborated with a range of clients, from early-stage startups like Oaky and Split-a-Gift to larger organizations like Kilroy and Unilever, translating design concepts into stable, user-friendly applications. While still studying at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, I bridged my background in both programming and UX/design to ensure the products we shipped were not only technically sound but also intuitive and engaging to use. Eager to improve our development process, I introduced React (then a cutting-edge technology) to replace the existing Backbone.js frontend stack. This shift enabled us to deliver faster, more dynamic interfaces, significantly improving both development speed and user experience.
