Mystery Applicant are a recruitment analytics company. They integrate with the recruitment processes of a range of large enterprises, surveying applicants as they progress through, and provide insight to drive process improvement and assess brand impact.
As part of a team of three, extends, enhances and maintains the Ruby on Rails application, the Kiba based ETL (Extract Transform Load) systems, and their associated AWS infrastructure.
The application is a Rails monolith that ingests data through an API, extracted from client ATSs (Applicant Tracking Systems) by ETL pipelines as applicants progress or drop-out. Custom surveys are sent based on complex, client specific criteria, and the results stored in a MySQL database and indexed in a Solr secondary store. A second API provides statistical views of the applicant responses, which are used to populate a React based dashboard currently being developed to replace a legacy Rails based dashboard. The application receives updates for several million applicants per year and has a high requirement for security, reliability and the protection of personal information, resulting in extensive testing, careful peer review, and an architecture that minimises the retention and exposure of personal data.
Over the last two years, much of team's focus has been on the careful replacement of legacy code and improvements to infrastructure and processes to improve reliability, maintainability, security and correctness, while speeding up development and deployment. This has continued in tandem with implementing new features and onboarding clients.
