Work Experience

Work Experience

  • Principal Architect, Digital Enablement, Emirates

    Oct, 2019 - Present

Engaged to overhaul the Digital portfolio at Emirates as part of the Agile (SAFe) transformation, I am tasked with setting and rolling out the strategy for how the Digital Ecosystem, the Enterprise API Strategy, Customer Identity and Access Management, and Online Payments at Emirates will evolve to meet the organisation’s strategic goals. Responsibilities include leading and guiding our microservices architecture and frameworks (written in Java and NodeJS) and containerisation of existing applications, web and mobile implementations, managing vendor relationships, and mentoring architects and senior engineers to enable the Digital Portfolio at Emirates to operate efficiently. My portfolio also includes the new Digital Payment Platform at Emirates which processes transactions of over AED 3 billion a month. On a typical day I find myself challenging existing processes and architecture to try to bring about a cultural change by being the change itself (and this involves contributing code where required). I currently lead multiple teams of 40+ engineers to try and move our digital ecosystem into the cloud native world using OpenShift, Kubernetes, Solace, AWS, Azure, lots of negotiation and whatever else it takes to get the job done well.

The software is used by hundreds of developers and the web services, which run on an ecosystem of globally distributed Kubernetes clusters, 30 million+ requests a day.

I was responsible for building software and infrastructure teams (based in Pakistan and Serbia), all of the architecture and delivered the application on time and budget. He is an institution in himself. One of the few mentors I found who is not only technically strong but ethically keeps his principles first. He is one who can talk about any topic from any field and drives you through the process of moving positively. He has the best domain expertise in what he gets involved with from web and mobile development to IaC, cloud strategy to GitOps CI/CD and security. You name it and he can pull it out from his pocket it’s that easy. He is an out of the box thinker and being with him will motivate you to extend your horizon. This is not a recommendation as he doesn’t need one .

  • Hossam Kandel Mohamed

Meezaan is simply a tech Guru, he is the person you want to talk to, if you need to understand something complex or get a deep technical opinion about a problem.
He is helpful, wise and very knowledgeable in many fields, and he sticks to the right principles and best practises, and in addition to his wide and rich experience he preserves a decent amount of his time for hands-on .
If you want to modernise your ecosystem, build a strong team and compete in the IT market, no doubt Meezaan is the man for that mission

  • Daniël Klabbers

I met Meezaan at giffgaff in 2019, he was leading a team of developers working on a migration to Flarum while I provided consultation. Nothing prepared me for this calm, patient and welcoming man. His excellent knowledge of development practices, combined with in-depth hosting and DevOps experience blew me away. His ability to get things done, while doing them well and balancing technical debt versus speed, amazes me still.

In 2021 we founded Blomstra together, where he single-handedly rolled out the infrastructure for our SaaS; from CI/CD, Kubernetes configurations, DNS, API interactions etc. He even took care of moving between Linode, Google and Azure seemingly effortlessly.

Sometimes you meet people who are key players at companies they work for. Meezaan is definitely one of them.
